U.K.I_Virus Rising

Character studies for the prototype "U.K.I_Virus Rising", directed by Shu Lea Cheang.
The character, Reiko, can have different appearances and merge into wasted electronics to scavenge our digital remains...

Here is a first round of body transformations through custom shaders mostly.
The base model is from MakeHuman, it was a nice solution to simply edit the characters with the artist.
Some animations are still placeholders, I wish we can use mocap in the future ;°)
Tough work with Unity Timeline and CInemachine, but learned a lot on this.

Shu Lea Cheang "U.K.I_Virus Rising" premiered yesterday as a video installation at Gwangju Contemporary Arts Biennale, South Korea.
Introduction by Christine Y. Kim and Rita Gonzalez, Gwangju Biennale Curators :

Shu Lea Cheang will also represent Taïwan at 2019 Venice Biennale.

Let's see what the future will bring with this project !

Excerpts "U.K.I_Virus Rising", by Shu Lea Cheang

7 appearances, 7 styles. Some blend from one to the other. I had to create special shaders: displacement, subsurface, depth, mixed textures and other tricks: skinned mesh particle emitters, or renderTextures. 4 models used, based on MakeHuman female rig.
